Birgit Althans | project manager

 

Birgit Althans obtained her diploma in educational sciences at the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Universität in. In 1999, she wrote “Gossip, Women and Talking at the Work-place” as her PhD dissertation at the Freie Universität Berlin. She wrote her post-doctoral thesis on “The Desire of the Female Educator” in 2005 also at the FUB. “Early Relations between Gender, Social Work and Management in Germany and the USA (1880-1930)” was published 2007. Between 2008 and 2013 she was a professor for social education at Trier University and is since 2013, a professor of Empirical Elementary Education with a focus on Gender Studies at the Leuphana University Lüneburg, and since October 2018 a professor of Pedagogy at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. She is a member of the DGFE-Section “General Education Science”, and is a member of the executive board of the DGFE commission Pedagogical Anthropology. She is a member of the divisory council of “Yearbook Women – Gender Research in Educational Sciences  (Jahrbuch Frauen – und Geschlechterforschung in den Erziehungswissenschaften)”. She is on the editorial board of the “Journal for Cultural Sciences (Zeitschrift für Kulturwissenschaft)” and since 2016, a member of the editorial board of the journal “Diversitatis – Journal for diversity research and management (Diversitatis – Zeitschrift für Diversity-Forschung und -management)”.

 

Carla J. Maier | project coordinator / postdoc researcher

 

Carla J. Maier (nee Müller-Schulzke) is a postdoc researcher working at the intersection of sound studies, postcolonial studies and cultural studies, with an interdisciplinary methodology combining ethnography, music analysis and cultural analysis. She received her PhD defending a dissertation on “Transcultural Sound Practices: Urban Dance Music in the UK” from Goethe University Frankfurt/Main in 2013.

Her research interests include: the cultural politics of sound and listening, everyday and functional sounds, the transcultural effects of migration and globalization, Afro-diasporic (electronic) dance music, and sound art.

Jule Korte | project coordinator / postdoc researcher

 

Jule Korte is a postdoc researcher working on the field of Media- and Cultural Studies with a special focus on Television Studies and Empirical Research Methods. Her special interest lies on the intertwining relations between media use and everyday life experience as well as on the question of suitable empirical methods that could describe such relations. Before she started working for the BMBF research project “Transcultural Practices in Postmigrant Theatre and in School“ in December 2018, she was working at the Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf, where she received her PHD in 2017 with a Thesis on “Experiental Ecologies” of Television (“Zwischen Script und Reality: Erfahrungsökologien des Fernsehens” to be published in 2019, transcript Verlag).

Elise v. Bernstorff | research associate, focus of research: School

 

Elise v. Bernstorff (dipl. dramatics) studied applied dramatics at the JLU Gießen and was furthermore scholarship holder of the artistic-academic postgraduate programme “Assemblies and Participation: Urban Publics and Performance” (HCU Hamburg, research theatre / FUNDUS Theater, K3 Tanzplan Hamburg). There she developed artistic research projects with kids like “Das jüngste Gericht” (The Last Judgement) and “Das jüngste Gericht – eine außergerichtliche Versammlung” (The Last Judgement – an extrajudical assembly). They form the basis for her PhD about the “court performances”. Since 2010 v. Bernstorff works as a self-employed dramaturg, performance artist and scientific author and since 12/2016 she is research assistent in the BMBF research project “Transcultural Practices in Postmigrant Theatre and in School“  with a research focus on processes of formation and education in three primary and secondary schools.

Janna Wieland | research associate, focus of research: Theatre

 

Janna Wieland (Sc. M.) is a cultural anthropologist specialising in urban research and spatial sociology. She studied metropolitan culture in her bachelor’s degree and urban design in her master’s degree. In addition to ethnographic research projects on topics such as the city as a resource, lines of escape and atypical urban working conditions, she coordinated the accommodation of people from public housing in private apartments in the Wohnbrücke Hamburg project from 2015-2017.

Her research interests include: The investigation of transcultural contexts at the spatial sociological level with a focus on working methods and everyday phenomena. In the investigation of post-dramatic and post-migrant theatre productions she is particularly interested in the artistic research and documentary treatment of socio-political and historical conflicts on an aesthetically condensed and multimodal level.

In the TraKuBi project Janna Wieland works as a research assistant with a focus on theatre. For three years she is researching the method mixing of three theatre productions using ethnographic methods.
